Pickleball rating levels explained (2.0–5.0)

Most pickleball players use a scale from 2.0 to 5.0+ to describe skill level. This pickleball rating calculator gives you a quick estimate based on how you actually play: serve, dinks, volleys, movement, strategy, and consistency.

New player Recreational Competitive
2.0–2.5 Beginner
2.5–3.0 Developing
3.0–3.5 Strong rec
3.5–4.0 Club level
4.0–5.0+ Advanced

As a rough guide:

  • 2.0–2.5: Just learning rules, scoring, and basic shots.
  • 3.0: Can rally, understands where to stand, and plays regular rec games.
  • 3.5: Strong recreational player with some soft game and strategy.
  • 4.0: Competitive club player, mixing drives, drops, resets, and dinks.
  • 4.5+: High-level or tournament-level player with very strong consistency.
